About Our Team

Who Are We?

We are seniors at SUNY Oneonta pursuing a degree in adolescent education with a concentration in science. Three out of the four members on our team, Brianna, Nicole, and Scott have focused their studies on chemistry, Samantha, the fourth member has focused her studies in biology.

What Is Our Research?

As we approach the end of our studies at SUNY Oneonta, we are tasked with conducting our own interdisciplinary research on a subject matter of our own interest. Our group decided to focus our research on black-legged ticks and Lyme disease. As we began our research, focus was put on the occurrence of Lyme disease based on habitat.

To increase the value of our research, and make it a bit more personal, our team examined the probability of coming in contact with a black legged tick on the red and purple trails from SUNY Oneonta campus to Oneonta college camp.

Why Lyme Disease?

We chose the topic of Lyme Disease due to one of our peer’s experience with the disease. We wanted to take this research opportunity to deep dive and learn more about a fairly new disease that is considered an endemic in New York State. Through this project and the information collected, we realized we could create a tool that can help everyone in our campus community and the surrounding area be informed on the ways to be safe when out along the hiking trails.
